10 Reasons NYC Women Are Single

People who don’t live in NYC often think The Big Apple is the ideal place to find love. 


They can’t help but ask the bright, successful, and beautiful women they meet how they could possibly be single in a city with so many single men. Clearly, these people don’t “get” the reality of the dating scene for many single New Yorkers.

Finding lasting love is difficult for both men and women in this city. From my nine years of experience working here in the dating industry, my personal dating career, my reality-date-a-thon, and the experience of my friends, I’ve concluded that it is actually a hella lot harder for women.

The truth is there are a lot of reasons why we ladies are single in New York City. Here are ten to start with....

1. We are married to our careers and ignoring the sound of our ticking clocks.
2. We refuse to date the stereotypical finance guys. (And most of the guys we meet are stereotypical finance guys.)
3. We spend the majority of our weekends socializing at brunch with our girlfriends.
4. We get stuck in our neighborhoods. (i.e. Won’t date outside Manhattan or downtown when we live uptown, uptown when we live downtown, etc.)
5. We fill our lives with fun distractions. (Let’s face it, of all places to be single, NYC isn’t a bad one!)
6. We think someone better is just around the corner. (Men aren't like cabs, ladies. You can't always just find another one with his light on!) 
7. We waste our time going out with playboys who will never commit to one woman.
8. We can’t see ourselves settling down and having kids in NYC with men who don’t make serious bank, because we realize the cost of living here is more expensive than living in any other US city. (But we don't want to move to the 'burbs either.)
9. We make effort to get dressed up and go to happy hour, but the men stand in circles with their colleagues and consistently not approach us.
10. We are actually pretty content being single…until we aren’t.
